2000 Review - T206 Year

Time is running fast and year 2000 is coming to an end. The new Millennium is a good beginning and should have been considered as "YEAR OF T206". Some great T206 specimens, variations and collections have been auctioned this year. Collectors may not see them available again in the next few years and definitely won't happen in the same year.

One year after the closing of the most famous Halper Collection Auction by Sotheby's that fetched the recorded $22 million-plus and not counting the later Internet sales. The year 2000 will be most remembered for the sale of the PSA-8 T206 Honus Wagner that pushed past the $1-million mark. That sale was quickly followed by the even rarer PSA-2 T206 Joe Doyle variation selling for $178,598, both sales by divisions of MastroNet Inc.

This year also saw a all PSA graded sets selling for numbers pushing the previously exclusive $100,000 barrier. A grouping of 520 T206 cards from the Kirk Harris T206 Collection was auctioned for $1.1 million by SportsCards Plus, making it sort of the first set to top $1 million.

The one and only T206 Uncut Proof Strip which includes the Honus Wagner was auctioned off by Clean Sweep Auction after the purchased from Halper Collection. But the lot was withdrawn and the strip was sold privately after the auction.

Other than the Wagner uncut proof strip, the one of a kind T206 Eddie Collins proof which is in batting pose that was previously owned by Charlie Sheen was auctioned by Leland's Auction and fetched $24,930.
