T206 Honus Wagner PSA-Auth (Restored) sold for $1,982,500

Heritage Auctions (Oct 23, 2026)

1909-11 T206 White Border Sweet Caporal 150/25 Honus Wagner PSA Authentic (Restored)

1909-11 T206 White Border Sweet Caporal 150/25 Honus Wagner PSA Authentic (Restored) No trading card has commanded the imagination of collectors-or defined the highest echelon of the hobby-quite like the T206 Honus Wagner. The Old Dutchman's card appeared only briefly in 1909 before production was halted, creating the extraordinary scarcity that would help transform it into the foundational trophy of sports card collecting. The subject could hardly have been more deserving: Wagner won eight National League batting championships, compiled a .328 career average, and was among the five original players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. More than a century later, the convergence of an all-time great player, profound rarity, and unmistakable imagery has made the T206 Wagner an American collecting icon without parallel.

Its dominance has endured through every transformation of the marketplace. In August 2026, Heritage sold an Authentic-designated T206 Wagner for $5,856,000, establishing a new record for a Wagner carrying an Authentic designation. That extraordinary result reinforced what generations of advanced collectors have understood: the opportunity to acquire a genuine Wagner is an event unto itself, with each surviving example representing one of the precious few avenues to ownership of the card that has defined the pinnacle of the hobby for generations.

This example carries the Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects, Factory No. 25 advertising back and has been certified Authentic by PSA. For complete transparency, we report that the borders have been trimmed, and color has been professionally added in areas to minimize the visual prominence of creasing, resulting in PSA's Authentic designation. The restoration was executed with exceptional skill and sensitivity, substantially elevating the card's overall presentation while preserving the unmistakable character of the original. Wagner's portrait remains wonderfully compelling against the rich orange background, producing an image of tremendous visual strength and immediate presence.

The T206 Wagner long ago transcended the category of baseball card. It is one of the most famous and consequential collectibles in American popular culture, a rarity whose reputation extends far beyond sports memorabilia and whose appearance at auction commands international attention. Offered here is an opportunity to possess an authentic example with outstanding visual appeal and the coveted Sweet Caporal 150/25 reverse-a genuine specimen of the card that established the very concept of the trophy sports card and continues, generation after generation, to occupy a singular place in collecting history. Encapsulated PSA Authentic (Restored).
