T206 Yellow Brown printer scrap sold for $2900 & $2350

Robert Edward Auctions (April 29, 2007)

Robert Edward Auctions sold a T206 Hal Chase Yellow Brown printer scrap for $2350 in their April 2007 auction. Back in April 2006, Robert Edward Auctions sold another T206 Christy Mathewson Yellow Brown printer scrap for $2900.

The following was the auction description for the Hal Chase:

Extremely unusual and almost certainly unique T206 printing error card features Hal Chase. This printing error has escaped almost all color processes of the printing process, while at the same time keeping the ink processes that define Chase's image. The image of Chase appears in brown-and-white and gray, with a completely white background (as opposed to a pink background as issued). The reverse is a complete final process Sweet Caporal (350-460 series) back. This is a fascinating, and very striking, printing error from the T206 set. We believe this card was a printer's scrap and was never actually issued. It was likely hand-cut and saved from the trash by the printer or someone who worked for the printer. The card has a single crease on the left side of the card, and otherwise has a very clean and sharp overall Ex-Mt appearance. The Chase portrait is a particularly well known card in the T206 set, making this an all the more interesting and memorable T206 printing error card.
