T206 Tom Needham with EPDG miscut sold for $4,740

Robert Edward Auctions (May 12, 2012)

Extremely unusual T206 card of Tom Needham of the Chicago Nationals with a factory printing error. The card has a severe factory miscut on the front and back, featuring a substantial portion of the card below on the sheet. When it comes to the T206 set, which is the most highly collected of all vintage card sets, anything unusual (especially if it might in any way shed light on the mysteries of the T206 set) is of great note. An extremely rare and unusual printing anomaly such as this that can be appreciated at a glance and that is so unusual is particularly desirable. In Excellent to Mint condition. Bright and clean, with no creases, only light corner wear, and a perfectly clean reverse. The reverse has a scarce El Principe De Gales advertisement. As collectors have become more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and unusual cards associated with the landmark T206 set. This is a fascinating, and very striking printing error from the T206 set. Because of its uniqueness, there is no consensus on the value of this card. We are confident the auction process will provide clarity. Encapsulated in the 1990s by Accugrade (grading pioneer and inventor Alan Hagar's company).

Final Bid with Buyer's Premium: $4,740
